Garden Refurbishment (2025) London

This project consisted in refurbishing the backyard of a victorian house in London.

Moodboard with the plan of what the backyard would have and some of my sketches. It shows the two options my cient was doubting between.

My client recently bought a house with an abandoned garden. The ground had lots of weeds, broken tiles and fences, however it had gravel, which could be reused. The challenge they found was either to use white tiles or terracotta flooring for half of the garden, which will be used for a dinning table, in order to make barbacueues and be able to dine outside.
We saw together that there could be a chill-out area, where the gravel could be reused, and there would be a sofa, a brazier, and soil surrounding this area for bushes of a variety of plants. These two areas (the gravel and the soil) will be separated by corten steel. They also wanted to have enough space behind the chill-out area in order to fit a tree or a few bigger plants. Nature is also a priority in this garden.

Renders made using rhinoceros, of the two materials they were doubting between.

I wanted to show a few options of possible combinations of furniture and fabrics for the backyard. Here you will see a few perspectives and different furniture as they were unsure with what would look better on the garden. The better option and more lasting would be to put the least porous material,
the terracotta is a porous one and will probably get damaged from the wet weather of London. However, it is true that character is built and it will show a more natural and rustic atmosphere the older it gets. On the other hand, the white tiles will be stronger, however they get dirty easier and it has a more clean and easy style.
